Granite vs Stainless Steel: Choosing Your Kitchen Sink
Two of the most popular kitchen sink materials, compared on durability, noise, cleaning and looks.
The kitchen sink works harder than almost anything else in the home. Granite composite and stainless steel are the two front-runners — each with clear strengths.
Granite composite
Dense, scratch-resistant and available in deep matte colours, granite sinks feel premium and stay quiet under running water. They hide limescale well in hard-water areas.
Stainless steel
Lighter, lower cost and endlessly recyclable, stainless is the workhorse. Choose a thicker gauge with sound-deadening pads to avoid a tinny sound.
The verdict
For a statement kitchen, granite wins on looks and acoustics. For budget and easy replacement, stainless is the pragmatic pick.
