One of the most trusted, respected and talented home builders in Southwest Florida, Gulfshore Homes, has built a solid reputation when it comes to new home construction, whether it be one of their spectacular, perfectly designed models or a luxurious private residence.
Throughout its long history, Gulfshore Homes has also built an incredible reputation for another craftsmanship specialty – home renovations – both inside and out.
“We can transform one or more rooms, such as kitchens and baths to reflect the latest trends and systems advances, or even make structural changes to a home including creating new outdoor living spaces,” said Steve Watt, President of Gulfshore Homes. “Whatever the renovation is, Gulfshore Homes promises the same standard-setting caliber of artisanship and uncompromising quality that epitomize our newly constructed custom homes.”
One of the building company’s latest remodel challenges occurred in the award-winning beach and golf club community of Miromar Lakes.
“The new owners of the home chose us to transform their outdated Mediterranean or Tuscan-style home, which was built in 2012, to a newer, more contemporary-style home,” declared Matt Shull, Gulfshore Homes’ Director of Construction..
According to Shull, the majority of the work took place inside the home, with the biggest renovation taking place in the kitchen.
“The kitchen was a total tear out,” Shull recalled. “The space had to be opened up so we removed three walls, enlarged the island counter so it could include seating, which it didn’t before, and we updated its cabinetry and hardware.”
Just off the kitchen, the home’s formal dining area was transformed into every man’s dream entertainment area – a step down bar.
“The original owners were using the space as a TV viewing room with large curved sectional sofa as its centerpiece,” noted Shull. “The new owners had us transform it into a bar with a half-circle island with sink and plenty of room for guests to sit-around. In addition, we placed a long cabinet on the back wall, which included a handy storage area. We also added two stacked shelves, one on each side of the long cabinet, for additional glass and bottle storage.”
According to Shull, a flat screen TV was installed on the wall, between the two stacked shelves, so those sitting at the island counter bar or near it, could watch without interruption.
The other major change in the house was the renovation of the home’s master bath. In short, it was made a brighter, more light filled space.
That’s because the walk-in shower, which was walled in but had two arched entries, one on each side of the shower, and an arched architectural glass window between the two entries, were eliminated and replaced 100 percent with a glass wall and two glass doors.
The former tub, which was placed in front of the original architectural window and between the two shower entrances, and sat within a wood and tiled frame, was taken out and replaced with a modern soaking tub.
Other master bath changes included the addition of electronic controls, new light fixtures, transforming the dark cabinets into bright white cabinetry with new hardware, as well as changing out the old sand colored tile flooring with a white patterned marble floor which was also used on the shower walls for visual consistency.
All guest baths were also updated with lighter colored cabinetry with new hardware, as well as painted walls. The same holds true for the laundry room which was repainted and its old floor replaced.
The majority of the home’s outdoor renovation took place in the outdoor living area which included just a grill. Gulfshore Homes expanded the area to include a convenient icemaker as well as two well-placed flat screen televisions.
The entire project took about a year to design and complete. That included the planning, ordering of materials, and client meetings, all of which started last February. The actual renovation work inside the home took just over a five month period.
“We started in July when the owners were up north and had a strict deadline to complete the renovation prior to their return for the 2022 season,” reflected Shull. “Due to our incredible pre-planning and dedicated team, all deadlines were met and the owners were extremely happy with the final outcome.”
