SUPERIOR — The Superior School Board selected a contractor for the bathroom addition project at Superior High School and approved the purchase of seven buses during its Monday, Dec. 12 meeting. Board members also voted to add Spartan Manufacturing apprentice and journey level courses to the high school curriculum beginning in the 2023-2024 school year.
Low bidder Donald Holm Construction Co. was awarded the bid for the restroom remodel, which will add nine toilets and four urinals to the second floor and six toilets and two urinals to the third floor of SHS. Both floors currently have four toilets and two urinals. The $594,200 project is being paid for out of the district’s dedicated capital improvements fund.
The seven Bluebird buses — five propane and two diesel — will be purchased from Wisconsin Bus Sales for a total cost of $830,920. Payments will be made over three years, $294,590 per year, beginning in the 2023-2024 school year.
Spartan Manufacturing,
which had its soft start this school year, will be offered as a two-credit elective course starting next school year. Board members mentioned at the end of the meeting that the student-run business is currently selling holiday items — ornaments, ornament stands and personalized iron trees — with 50% of the proceeds going to the SHS music department.
“We wanted to support the music department because one of our 10 core values is to pay it forward,” said technical education teacher Adam Kuhlman. “We also thought it would be a good chance to increase our public exposure. All of the items on our
are cut using CNC machinery, so it’s a good real life manufacturing experience for our students as well.”
Orders will be taken through Dec. 19, to ensure all items make it home for the holidays before students leave for break. Visit the
to order.
In other action, the board:
- Approved the calendar for the 2023-2024 school year.
- Tweaked the graduation requirements policy to include a ½ credit of health and wellness in grade 10 for students graduating in 2027 and beyond.
